Prof. Dr. Ayse Erol is the head of the Nano-Optoelectronics Research Group. Her research activities cover a wide range of fields including electrical and optical characterization of semiconductors, charge transport in semiconductors, design, fabrications, and characterization of optoelectronic devices (diode, lasers, LEDs, photodetectors etc.), as well as synthesizing, characterizing nanostructures and investigation the sensor properties. She was a visiting researcher at the University of Essex with the support of TUBİTAK-British Chening Schorship during her PhD. She has got Nazım Terizoğlu Young Scientists award in 2004 and TÜBA book award with her book name is “Yarıiletkenler ve Optoelektronik Uygulamaları (Semiconductors for Optoelectronics published in 2021 by Springer)” in 2014. She published 4 books, more than 100 papers and conducted many research projects. She is currently a member of the editorial boards of many journals and the Coordinator of Istanbul University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omer Donmez has experience in low noise optical signal detection, optical characterization of semiconductor and optoelectronic devices, electrical transport in low and high electric and/or magnetic field from milli Kelvin to room temperature. He has also conducted studies on modeling and simulation of semiconductor devices. He has been working on optical and electrical transport properties of III-V/Bi alloys. Moreover, he has short-term research activity at Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland.

  • High speed transport mechanics of the Bi-containing III-V alloys.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Nutku is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronics Research Laboratory Group since 2006. His main research areas include semiconductor physics, photonics-plasmonics, statistical physics and quantum mechanics. He is an expert on both numerical and symbolic computation, modelling and simulation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sarcan is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2010, has experience in low-temperature physics, material and electronic/optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization techniques. Moreover, he is an expert on all fabrication and characterization systems and tools at the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Laboratories. He has a one and half year postdoc experience at University of York (UK). Currently, he is working on 2D materials and their optoelectronic device applications.

Assist Prof. Dr. Kamuran KARA KOÇ is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2013. She has experience in semiconductor physics, production and synthesis of thin film coatings, nanocomposites, electronic/optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization techniques. She has a half year postdoc experience at Nano-Optoelectronic Research Laboratory and Advanced Lithographic Techniques Laboratory. Currently he is working on nanocomposite materials and their optoelectronic applications.

Assist Prof. Dr. Furkan Kuruoğlu is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2014. His main research areas include semiconductor physics, semiconductor devices, solar cells and SAW based microfluidics. He is an expert in all micro/nano fabrication and characterisation techniques required for the listed research interests.

Res. Assist. Dr. Selman MUTLU is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2014. He has experience in low-temperature physics, low dimensional structures, electronic transport mechanisms, micro/nanodevices fabrications, high speed measurement, high voltage and wide band gap hot electron lasing and light emission in semiconductor heterostructures (WBG-HELLISH). Currently he is working on InGaAs based Gunn Diode applications and electrical chracterizations of Borophene.

Res. Assist. and MSc. Candidate Göksenin KALYON is a member of the Nano & Optoelectronics Research Group since 2017. She completed her bachelor from İstanbul University (TUR) . She has experience in , micro/nanodevices fabrications, high speed measurement, high voltage and low current.Currently she is working on Fabrication and Characterisation of InGaAs Gunn Diode-Based Light Emitting Device.

PhD. Candidate Mustafa AYDIN is a member of the Nano & Optoelectronics Research Group since 2017. He completed his bachelor from İstanbul University (TUR) and MSc. from Yıldız Technical University (ENG) in the department of physics. He has experience in fuel cells, low-temperature physics, high magnetic field, low dimensional structures, electronic transport mechanisms, micro/nanodevices fabrications, high speed measurement, high voltage and low current. He is an expert on all optical and electrical characterization systems, tools, and experiment setups at the Nano & Optoelectronics Research Laboratory. He works as a Scientific Project Specialist. Currently, he is continuing to his PhD. studies and also other scientific studies.

PhD Candidate Ümit DOĞAN is the member of Nano & Optoelectronics Research Group since 2015. He studied Physics and Physics Teaching at İstanbul University. He completed his master's degree in Solid State Physics program at İstanbul University. Currently, within the scope of TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2244 - Industrial PhD Fellowship Program, he is both doing his PhD on Solid State Physics (TR) at İstanbul University and works as an Advanced R&D Specialist at NERO Industry Defense Inc. He has experience in electronics, optoelectronic device fabrication, advanced lithography techniques and characterization techniques. His main research areas are UV and IR photodetectors.

PhD Candidate Ahmet ÜNVERDİ is the member of Nano & Optoelectronics Research Group since 2020. He studied Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EN, KBÜ | BSc), Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DE, TUI | BSc, Erasmus+ in Germany) and Nanotechnology and Engineering Sciences (EN, ATÜ | MSc). He can speak 6 languages at various levels and currently, within the scope of TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2244 - Industrial PhD Fellowship Program, he is both doing his PhD on Solid State Physics (TR) at İstanbul University and works as an Advanced R&D Specialist at NERO Industry Defense Inc. He has experience in electronics, PCB design and optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization techniques, and his main research areas are solar cells and IR detectors. He works on IR PZT [Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3] detectors and MOS gas sensors, presently.

PhD. Candidate Mustafa BUYUKHARMAN is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2020. He graduated from Materials Science and Nanotechnology Enginering (B.Sc.) in 2018 and Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (M.Sc.) in 2020. He has experience in 2D material fabrication and characterization techniques. Also, he studied on solar cell and electrochemical cells. Currently he is working on pyroelectrical materials fabrication and it’s applications about IR detection and within the scope of TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2244 - Industrial PhD Fellowship Program, he is both doing his PhD on SSP Istanbul University and works as an Advanced R&D Specialist at NERO Industry Defence Inc.

MSc. Candidate Aydın MASOUMİ is the member of the Nano & Optoelectronic Research Group since 2020. He completed his bachelor’s in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and right now, he is studying on Solid-State Physics. He has experience in electronic circuit design, embedded system programming and PCB design. Currently, he is studying optoelectronic devices, 2D materials, transistors fabrication and characterization with 2D materials, and negative capacitance effect in infrared photodetectors.

MSc. Student Yusuf Kerem Bostan is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since 2021, has graduated from Istanbul University in the department of physics. He started working at the laboratory while he is in undergraduate term through TUBITAK STAR project and at the same time he finished one BAP project on lithography techniques by using 3D-printed masks. He has experience in 2D/3D modelling (in Shapr3D and Elphy Quantum), 2D materials and electronic/optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization techniques. He continues studying on micro/nano size fabrication and characterization systems and tools at the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Laboratories. Currently he is working on 2D materials and their optoelectronic device applications within TUBITAK 1001 project under the coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sarcan.

Istanbul Technical University bachelors of chemistry student Ceyda Akın is the member of the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Group since October 2021. She is a researcher and STAR scholarship student at the TUBITAK project which is 2D TMDC/MEMS Hybrid Wavelength Tunable LED. Right now, she is studying chemical doping in 2D materials part of this project.

Undergraduate Research Asistant Mehmet Saner ŞENKALAYCI is a member of the Nano & Optoelectronics Research Group since March 2021. Right now¸ he is studying at İstanbul University department of physics(B.Sc.) and also Works at Nano-Optoelectronic Research Laboratories as a researcher.He has cleanroom training in there.Currently, he is learning material and electronic/optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization techniques. Moreover, he is studying on 2D materials, and Photoelectric effect and optoelectronic device applications.He is learning simulate real-world designs, devices and processes with COMSOL multiphysics software.
